The General Manager, Public Relations, NAMA, Mr. Khalid Emele, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.

Emele said Notice To Airmen (NOTAM) was issued to airlines at 7.oop.m concerning the reopening of the runway which was closed after an Air Peace flight from Port Harcourt made an emergency landing at the airport.

The runway was shut for flight operations at about 11:28a.m after the Boeing 737 Aircraft with registration number 5N-BQO, made a hard landing and lost its nosewheel.

However, the 133 passengers and six crew members on board were safely disembarked by the emergency response agencies.

Earlier, Mr. Akin Olateru, the Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), said the bureau had been notified of the incident and had sent its inspectors to the site.

Olateru said:

“The AIB has been notified by Air Peace on July 23 of an accident involving a Boeing 737-300 with registration marks SN-BQO at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 11:28a.m.

“The aircraft, with 133 passengers and six crew members on board, was on approach to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos from Port Harcourt.

A spokesman to former Nigerian vice president Tuesday accused the country’s president of deflecting the attention of the country from the Shiite-police clash with the release of the ministerial list.

Paul Ibe, who is the spokesman for Atiku Abubakar, said President Muhammadu Buhari used his 43-man ministerial nominees’ list to deflect the narrative of the ‘avoidable’ death of about 13 persons during a protest against the continued detention of their leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife on Monday.

“Buhari releases ministerial list ostensibly to deflect the narrative of the avoidable deaths following the Shiites protest of Monday,” Ibe said in a tweet.

The protest on Monday, July 22, claimed the life of deputy police commissioner Umar Usman, who was in charge of operations at the Federal Territory Police Command, a journalist with Channels Television Precious Owolabi and about 11 Shiites.

Buhari condoled with the victimsmoments after the ministerial nominees’ list was announced by Senate president Senator Ahmad Lawan Tuesday.

Among the ministerial nominees, Buhari listed former ministers such as Chris Ngige, Hadi Sirika, Rotimi Amaechi, Adamu Adamu, Mohammed Adamu, Babatunde Fashola and Lai Mohammed.

Others in the list are Uche Ogah, Emeka Nwajuiba, Sadiya Farouk, Musa Bello, Godswill Akpabio, Sharon Ikeazor, Ogbonnaya Onu, Akpa Udo, and Adebayo (Ekiti).

Also, Timipre Sylva, Adamu Adamu, Shewuye (Borno), Isa Pantami, Gbemi Saraki, Ramatu Tijani, Clement Abam were also declared as part of the nominees.

Paullen Tallen, Abubakar Aliyu, Sale Mamman, Abubakar Malami, Muhammed Mamood, Rauf Aregbesola, Mustapha Buba Jedi Agba, Olamilekan Adegbite, and Mohammed Dangyadi.

Unlike his first term when he appointed only 36 ministers, one per each state, President Buhari nominated one person per geo-political zone which totalled the ministerial nominees’ to 43.

The ministerial nominees are subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.

These Are The 7 States President Buhari Gave Two Ministerial Slots And The Reasons Why

$

After the much-awaited ministerial list of President Muhammadu Buhari has been made public today 23 July, pressmanng.com has made some observations and found out that the president gave preferential treatment to some state by giving them two ministerial slots.

There are 7 states with two ministerial slots each.

Anambra state is among the most noticeable states that got two ministerial slots from president Buhari, however pressmanng could not come up with the probable reason for this:

Anambra – Dr Chris Ngige
Anambra – sharon Ikeazu

The next state that got the two ministerial slot is Bauchi. Bauchi was among the states that gave president Buhari the most arousing welcome during his Campaign and they also showed support to the president by giving him a reasonable margin of votes.

Bauchi – Adamu Adamu
Bauchi – Ambassador Mariam Kategu

The most obvious reason for giving Edo state two ministerial slots could be that APC chairman, Adams Oshiomhole was from that state and he is among the right hand people of president Buhari.

Edo – Osagie Ehanire
Edo – Clement Agba

Kaduna is home to president Buhari because after Daura the next best destination for the president is Kaduna, he has a residential house there and the current governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai is his right man this the reason for giving the state two ministerial slots

Kaduna – Zainab Ahmed
Kaduna – Mohammed Mahmud

Kano had as usual given the president Muhammadu Buhari the most votes in the last general Election and its understandable if the state is given two ministerial slots

Kano – Sabo Nanono
Kano – Major Bashir Sani

Lai Muhammad is among the 11 ex ministers that made it to the new ministerial list of president Muhammdu Buhari, the reason is obvious, as a minister of information, Lai Muhammad had protected the interest of the president at all cost. The second name that came from kwara state on the ministerial list was that of the sister to former senate president who abandoned her brother and supported president Buhari in the last election. What more reason do we need?

Kwara – Lai Mohammed
Kwara – Gbemisola Saraki

Lagos the commercial city of Nigeria and the home to Vice President, prof Yomi Osinbajo and the APC talisman who is also presumed to be the next APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmad Tinubu The Jagaban can be said to have deserved the two ministerial slots

Lagos – Babatunde Raji Fashola
Lagos – Adeleke Mamora

Killings: Defend Yourselves From Herdsmen, No Tribe Is Superior – Fani-Kayode Tells Yorubas

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has called on the Yoruba people residing everywhere across of the federation, to defend themselves against attack from suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The former minister spoke in Akure, the Ondo State capital when he paid a condolence visit to the leader of Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, over the death of his daughter, Mrs. Funke Olakunrin.

He said Yoruba people should be law-abiding and maintain peace but not at the expense of killings by the rampaging herdsmen.

According to him, “Our people are being killed every day in every state of the South West. We now live under the threat of Fulani herdsmen. This is too bad. No region or tribe is superior to the other in Nigeria. We are all equal and we should be treated equally.”

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain said was the need for the Federal government to be alive to its responsibility of protecting the lives of all Nigerians.

He added, “Something strong and drastic should be done to curtail insecurity in the country. We are beyond the era of rhetoric now. We must do something to secure the lives of our people and the entire Yoruba nation must be secured irrespective of our political affiliation.

“We as leaders will continue to encourage our people to allow peace to reign in the South West and the country at large. The anger is high but we will continue to preach peace to the people.

We want peace, unity, and love in Nigeria but not at the expense of killing our people. We are restraining our people from violence but we should not be pushed to the wall.

“We want peace and unity in Nigeria, but we don’t want peace at the expense of the lives of innocent people. Therefore, the government must rise to the occasion and fight insecurity in the interest of peace and the continued existence of our nation.

We are fed up with killings in South Western Nigeria. We must be able to protect our people if the government that is saddled with the responsibility to protect us fails to protect us.

“I was at the residence of Pa Fasoranti when the governors of the South West told him their position against nomadism in the South West. But, the hands of these governors are tied.

“I doubt if they will have the courage to say that to President Buhari, because throughout their meeting in Akure, they did not mention Fulani herdsmen as the ones terrorizing our people.”

Do You Agree?? RUGA Will Not Happen In Edo State, Sambisa Forest A Better Option – Governor Obaseki

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki said his administration will not avail the federal government land for the contentious Ruga settlement in Edo State.

The Governor spoke while giving a lecture on the topic “Challenges of Pastoralism and International Migration for Sustainable Peace and Development: Edo State Experience” at the Department of State Services Institute of Security Studies (Executive Intelligent Management Course 12), in Abuja.

He said the narrative that the pastoral movement and farmer/headers clashes are not related to the security challenges in Nigeria is not true.

His words: “In Edo State, we have found so-called herdsmen with maps in the forests, they clearly cannot be herdsmen who are dependent on their livelihood from their animal assets; that cannot be.

“I think it is important in the context of this discourse to make that distinction between conflict as a result of economic activities, separate from the deliberate conflict that is related to other issues like insurgency and terrorism.”

The Governor said over the years the state has had issues of pastoralists or herdsmen who have come to parts of the South, Edo State using grazing routes and mixing with locals.

“Our approach is, animal husbandry is a business just like we have poultry, piggery or what have you, so from that perspective, we want to now upgrade agricultural practices as it relates to livestock.

“During the era of General Babangida, he set up ranches in Edo; we have one in Igarra and several parts of the state. They are either privatized or left fallow, so we are talking to people who purchased them to see how they can be re-activated.

“For us, because it is business like any other private business, the state should not really have much to except we create an enabling environment for those people we want to invest in livestock business.

“So, the issue of giving state land for livestock, it won’t happen in Edo State.

“However, for individuals who have land and they want to go into livestock business like we are supporting people who are doing cassava and others, we as government will support them.”

On how to resolve the incessant herders/farmers conflict, he said: “The Sambisa Grazing Reserve (4800 ha) is an ideal and symbolic place to take-off by establishing a ranch run by the military.

“It would significantly improve the security situation in the zone and encourage cooperation between pastoralists and the military.
“In the North West, the military should also be encouraged to create ranches in the Gidan Jaja Grazing Reserve (565,000 ha) for the same purpose of improving security and cooperation with pastoralists,” the Governor said.

Obaseki said violent extremism, recurrent herder-farmer conflicts, cattle rustling, armed banditry, violent cross-border crimes, insurgency, illegal migration and other forms of crimes have “threaten the fabric of our country. ”

According to him, national cohesion is seriously threatened by the conflict “as many farmers and pastoralists have lost their lives and property in several orgies of violence.

“As we gather here for this lecture, so many Nigerians are living in fear of attack or reprisal attacks due to the growing herders-farmers’ conflict,” he said.

Why We Haven’t Released El-Zakzakky – Presidency

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, says the Presidency has refused to obey Justice Gabriel Kolawole’s ruling, ordering the release of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibraheem El-Zakzakky, because it appealed the ruling.

Adesina said this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday.

The presidential spokesman said the then-Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), could have his reasons for doing so since the government had the right to appeal the bail.

He said, “I know that the immediate past AGF in whose purview it was to make pronouncements on that, addressed the issue. If bail is granted and another case subsists, and there is an immediate filing of an appeal, you have to wait till it is dispensed with. So, that is a legal matter which is outside my purview, but as a layman, an unlearned man as lawyers would call us, we know that until all cases are dispensed with, you don’t say that they have been concluded.”

Adesina said the matter had since been taken before a court in Kaduna State and the bail hearing would come up on Monday.

He, therefore, called on the sect to wait for the court to make its ruling.

Responding to allegations that the police should not have fired live bullets at the group which was protesting against the continued detention of their leader in Abuja on Monday, the spokesman said the police deserved commendation, adding that the death toll would have been higher if the force did not demonstrate restraint.

Adesina said, “I tell you despite what happened yesterday (Monday), if the police had responded with greater force, you know we would not be talking about what we are talking now.

“A deputy commissioner of police was killed. Very sad, that is one life just like any other life. He did not deserve to die in service. But if the police had responded in a similar fashion, you would have been talking of rivers of blood in Abuja now.”

We Did Not Shoot Channels TV Reporter Or Deputy Police Commissioner – Shiites Speak Out

According to PM News, Shiites under the Islamic Movement in Nigeria have absolved themselves from the murder of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in the FCT, DCP Usman Musa and the Channels TV reporter, Precious Owolabi, claiming they were the victims of police fire.

The group claimed the duo along with 11 protesters fell in the shooting spree embarked upon by the police on Monday.

Ibrahim Musa, president Media Forum of the Islamic Movement absolved the group in a statement today.

He reiterated that members of the movement do not carry weapons, so they could not have been responsible for the death of the senior policeman and the reporter.

“It seems the security agents strategically killed the journalist to turn the media against us. They also killed the police officer to incite the security community against us and to stigmatise us.

They are the ones with guns and they are the ones doing the shootings and also doing the killings, then fraudulently lie to Nigerians that their victims are the violent ones”, Musa said.

According to Musa, the police could not successfully pin Musa’s death on the group, because he was shot in the back.

“Photographs showed (he) was struck from the back of his head with the bullet exit in front, an indication that he was a victim of friendly fire. It is a known fact among the intelligence community that you don’t retreat from a mob with your back turned against them.

This is one of the tenets of crowd control for law enforcement agencies. As if to hide this fact, the late policeman was hurriedly buried without any form of postmortem examination, which would have revealed the source of the bullet”.

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, assured Nigerians that his administration will not return the country to the days of exporting jobs through the importation of food and clothing items that can be produced locally.

President Muhammadu Buhari Ndokwa/Oshimili people protest alleged marginalization (Opens in a new browser tab) President Buhari also said the priority of his administration was to create as many jobs as possible.

Speaking at an audience with the National Executive Council of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers, led by its President, Comrade John Adaji, at State House, the president said in the last four years, the Federal Government had deployed limited resources to job-creating sectors, such as agriculture and mining.

He lamented the closure of textile factories, especially in the North which he said gave rise to crimes. He said: “We promoted policies that will support local industries such as import restrictions. We introduced programs that provided affordable and accessible capital to both large and cottage industries.

“We also introduced Executive Orders that encouraged the procurement of Made in Nigeria goods and services.” He said that his administration would continue to support the above policies and programs in the years ahead, stressing:

“We will not allow Nigeria to return to the days of exporting jobs through the importation of food and clothing items which can be produced locally. We owe this to the over 200 million Nigerians.”

The President in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, noted that the textile and garment sector has the potential to create millions of jobs and will, therefore, remain one of the priority sectors for the administration.

Speaking on behalf of the union, General Secretary, Comrade Issa Aremu, commended President Buhari for being the first Nigerian leader to grant the 41-year-old body an audience and making the revival of the textile industry a campaign topic.

Bemoaning the closure of hundreds of textile factories, which used to employ “millions of workers more than the workforce of the Federal Government in the 70s and 80s,” he also saluted the textile-friendly policies of the administration such as the interventions by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Executive Order on the use of local garments by uniformed organisations among others.

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode said, yesterday, that Yoruba people are being restrained from violence following the spate of killings and kidnappings in the zone, warning that the South West should not be pushed to the wall.

He also said that the zone is interested in peace and unity in the country but not at the expense of the killings in the zone. The former minister said this while speaking with newsmen, in Akure, after a condolence visit to the leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

He, however, called on “Yoruba people in all the states of the federation, especially those in the South West to defend themselves against attack from the marauding herdsmen.” Fani-Kayode said: “The Yoruba people should be law-abiding and maintain peace but not at the expense of killings by herdsmen.

“We want peace, unity, and love in Nigeria but not at the expense of killing our people. “Our people are being killed every day in every state of the South West. We now live under the threat of herdsmen.

Some Buhari’s Ministerial Nominees Are Fantastically Corrupt – Yakassai

Tanko Yakasai, a founding member of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has said there are fantastically corrupt persons in President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial list.

Buhari, on Tuesday, sent a list of 43 ministerial nominees to the senate, seeking their confirmation.

Speaking on the ministerial list in Kano on Tuesday, Yakasai said the list makes a mockery of the president’s anti-corruption war.

He said the returning ministers might not be able to do anything differently from what they did during Buhari’s first term in office.

He said, “The new ministerial list submitted by the president to the senate is representative enough, but the nomination of certain people perceived to be fantastically corrupt made a mockery of the president’s war against corruption.

“The fact remains that the returnees are many means that the policy of the new government will not be much different from that of the outgoing.

“My only observation is that since the majority of the nominees are already known to the president his delay in submitting a ministerial nomination is unjustifiable.”

But Abdulrahman Sumaila, former Special Adviser to Buhari on legislative matters, countered Yakassai’s submission by saying the ministerial list reflects competence and credibility.

Speaking with journalists in Kano, Sumaila debunked allegations of corruption and lopsidedness on the list, saying the president has fulfilled his constitutional responsibility by ensuring each geopolitical zone has a representative on the list.

He said, “Remember the president has said he will only appoint a person he is familiar with and that’s what he did.

“Those on the list are capable hands well known to the president especially those from Kano, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, a traditional title holder and illustrious farmer and Major General Magashi.

“And those saying the president’s list is not balanced are not aware of the constitutional right of the president. The constitution says the president should appoint one person each from the states which he did.

Again the president has the prerogative to appoint any other persons from anywhere.”

Nigerians Deserve More Under Next Level Agenda – Omo-Agege

Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, has said Nigerians deserve a better deal under the “Next Level” agenda of the current administration.

A statement by his Media Office in Abuja on Tuesday said the Deputy President of the Senate disclosed this at the 2019 summit of Association of Professional Bodies in Nigeria(APBN).

Omo-Agege, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Legislative and Plenary Matters, Mr. Efe Duku, said the 9th National Assembly would evoke legislative interventions to achieve national development as contained in the “Next Level Agenda” of the current administration.

He said the senate was poised to ensure positive changes through major legislative interventions to overcome the nation’s challenges in critical areas like security, economy, public finance management reform, infrastructure, criminal legislation reform, anti-corruption, electoral reforms and revival of the real sector.

He said the National Assembly had confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment toward realizing the “Next Level Agenda” for the good of Nigerians. He said “Having spent the past four years to reset our national leadership foundation on many fronts, Nigerians deservedly expect our ‘next level’ to be one of the visible positive outcomes.

“That is exactly what the 9th National Assembly promises to deliver through major legislative interventions for good governance in critical areas like public security, the economy, public finance management reform, public infrastructure, criminal legislation reform, anti-corruption; electoral reforms, and reviving the real sector.

“The 9th National Assembly has implicit confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari’s patriotic personal commitment to a steady realization of the Next Level agenda.”

Earlier in his opening remarks, APBN President, Mr. Olumuyiwa Ajibola, said the summit was conceived to bring together key professionals in the country to dialogue on issues of national development across all sectors.

He said the summit would examine existing policies of the Federal Government, the state and the private sector with a view to realising the national objectives. He said the summit was designed specifically to ensure how best to support the realization of the Next Level desire of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ajibola said the association had an indispensable role to play to realize the agenda of the government.

A Nigerian doctor, Dr Abideen Aro, on Monday night, rescued a yet-to-identified pilgrim that slumped shortly after a prayer at the Masjid Haram/Nabawi in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

According to TheNation, officials of the Saudi Arabia Red Crescent Authority had battled hard to revive him unsuccessfully until Dr. Aro got to the scene.

He introduced himself as a medical practitioner to the visibly troubled emergency responders before they allowed him access to the slumped pilgrim.

After administering some medical therapies, the pilgrim opened his eyes and responded to further first aid treatment. He was then quickly put on an emergency vehicle and driven to the hospital for further treatment.

According to Dr Aro, who is working with the Lagos State Accident and Trauma Centre, the pilgrim was dehydrated. The emergency responders thanked him for his heroic feat.
