Why We Must Not Give Up On Nigeria -Sowore

$

Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner, has warned Nigerians against seeking instant gratification from politicians at the expense of building a country that works for their future.

He made the call while speaking to Nigerians a townhall meeting organised by the Take It Back Movement in Greece.

Sowore who ran for Nigeria’s Presidency in the 2019 general elections said his experience with Nigerians both young and old during the campaign prove that the immediate need to benefit for politicians was holding the country back.

He said, “Anytime you meet Nigerians, the question they will ask you is what do you have for us? Do you have money, land or anything to promise us and even if you promise them something bigger for the future, they will still want instantaneous gratification and it is not only the youth who do it, older people do it too.

“It might get to a point where you want to get discouraged about Nigeria. This is the experience we had this last election but because of the fact that this is a country of two million people, it’s very important that we do not give up for Nigeria and for Africa.”

Sowore attributed the unwillingness of Nigerians to participate in the electoral process or encourage young people who do to internalization of Inferiority complex due to oppression.

“Do not give up regardless of what you hear from home. Part of what you hear when people say go and start from the local government is the mental conditioning of oppression, just like in the days of slavery.

Slaves were made to feel that those on the fields were inferior to house slaves but until everybody became free, they didn’t realize that slavery was slavery and there is no category.

“It’s the same with Nigerians, they have been mentally battered and conditioned over the years to be questioning even their own humanity and competence to lead anything because their leaders keep telling them they are not good enough.”

Nigeria Is Ready For 5G, NCC Says

The commission’s Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, Mr. Sunday Dare, said this in Abuja at an interactive session with newsmen.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said the country is ready for the 5G bandwidth network for faster and efficient internet services.

This is as the commission said it will soon audit the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to determine their level of compliance with the regulation on the registration of Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards.

The commission’s Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, Mr. Sunday Dare, said this in Abuja at an interactive session with newsmen.

He said the NCC had been preparing the country for it by bringing together critical stakeholders to examine the legal, regulatory and technology issues, apart from developing a roadmap.

“We have opened up consultations on spectrum for drones, etc. We are proactively leading discussions on the development of new technologies. This does not mean that we are going to discard the 2G, 3G or 4G. Each one of these levels of technologies has its benefits and the fact remains that you have to move from one level to the other,” Dare said.

On the audit of the MNOs, Dare said it was during a similar exercise in August 2015 that the regulatory body found that 5.2 million SIM cards were not properly registered by MTN Nigeria Communications Limited.

This, according to him, led to the imposition of N1.04tn fine on the mobile operator, before it was eventually reduced to N330bn. MTN completed the payment of the fine on May 24. According to him, the exercise was not to make money for the government but to ensure that prescribed processes were complied with.

Speaking on broadband penetration, the NCC official said Nigeria has met the 30 percent milestone and has publicly released the data for everyone to interrogate.

“Those who say we have not are citing old reports from the ITU. They forget that NCC provides the data that ITU uses. We are the custodians of data, and we have specialised methods of measuring. Based on empirical data, we have met and surpassed the target,” he noted.

BBNAIJA Khloe who sat for a new interview, stated that she has 7 years before getting married and doesn’t look forward to having kids anytime soon.

Khloe who stated that she doesn’t see anything wrong in being a single mother, told Sunday Scoop that she has 7 years before getting married as she has her career to focus on at the moment.

“I’m not looking forward to having kids anytime soon. I still have about seven years before I settle down. Everything has to be in order. I don’t want to bring kids into the world and make them suffer.

I want to be a good mother. My career is right in front of me and it needs my attention. However, God’s time is the best. I could have a kid next year; you never can tell.

“I wouldn’t blame women who have opted to become single mothers and it’s something I can do, so far I have peace and happiness. People don’t understand that marriage is not the ultimate in life.

Some people are married but they are dying inside. A family doesn’t necessarily have to consist of a father, mother and children; it could just be a mother and her kids.”

Two cars were ruined on Saturday when a container fell on them at the Tin-Can Island Ports area in Apapa Lagos.

At least two cars were destroyed after a container fell on them around Tin Can Island port in Apapa, Lagos, on Saturday.

It’s not clear if there were casualties but the affected vehicles were badly damaged.

Heavy-duty vehicles are scattered across Apapa due to the location of different ports in the area. To reduce traffic congestion and possibly minimize accidents, the federal government recently set up a task force to restore sanity to the roads in the area.

Recalled that the Federal Government on Friday extended by two weeks, the time given to the Presidential Taskforce on the Apapa traffic gridlock to resolve the matter following a request for extension by members of the taskforce and other stakeholders.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, approved the extension at a meeting of the Presidential Taskforce with stakeholders at the Presidential Villa, earlier in the week.

The taskforce, according to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, commenced its assignment on May 24 and had up to June 7 to complete the assignment.

He said that the panel was expected to present a formal report at the end of its extended mandate on June 24.

MUSIC LOVERS!!! Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Asa, and Burna Boy Are All Dropping An Album Soon – Which One Are You Expecting More?

$
0

Even with the boring music start of 2019, it still has these promising feelings that it’s sure going to well on a good note.

The year so far has been enveloped by musical contents coming mainly from the new artiste, likes of Fireboy, T Classic, Zamorra, Rema amidst others. Wonder what the big shoes are busy doing, probably they’re tiding up kinds of stuff for their coming album.

One thing is for sure that before the year runs out Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy and the legendary singer Asa will giving us a pack of their work not in form of a single, EP but an Album.

ASA

Personally, I can’t wait for what Asa has in stock for the whole world. Considering her long hiatus from the musical scene, she should be coming with a legendary album.

We can’t expect a fluke from someone that has been putting in work on this project for the years she has hibernated from a musical scene.

With her new single tittled “The Beginning” released months back we are optimistic as to what we should be expecting from Asa

WIZKID

The hype and expectations for the new Starboy coming album dubbed “Made In Lagos” are continuously on the increase as days go on.

The delay of the album release has been traced to the activities of Sony Music Record label Wizkid is currently in, cause we could recall what happened to Davido in 2016 too.

Wizkid announces to drop a new single with the title Joro recently and coupled with the new Ciroc vodka version that was named after Wizkid album “Made In Lagos” the thirst of fans has been fueled towards the album.

TIWA SAVAGE

We sure want to know what an album under an International record label, RCA will look like yeah?

Since her last album RED, Tiwa Savage hasn’t really curated any major single for her fans, maybe Mama Jam Jam is preserving all stew for her coming album! Looking forward to listening to it.

DAVIDO

After the setback that happened to his music career in 2016, as a result of failure to release is already hyped sophomore album, because of something he linked to his deal with Sony Music.

Davido has at last grown the balls to put out an album titled “7 (Seven)“, Davido recent link to international acts has given us an hint that the album is going to be a star-packed one.

A sophomore album from an artiste like Davido that have spent 8 years in the Industry and has been consistent on yearly basis should be nothing but Fire jam!

BURNA BOY

After having an amazing 2018, it’s perfectly wise of Burna Boy to drop an album, when he still has the momentum and buzz surrounding him.

After the buzzing eruption of Ye off his Outside album, Burna Boy has been the talk of the year.

Followed up by eccentric back to back jam, the likes of “On the Low“, “Gbona“, “Dangote” and the recent release party jam “Anybody” we sure can’t wait for an album from the African Giant as he claims to be in his album tittle “African Giant

Having analyzed each yet to be released Albums from these big guns in the Industry, I have a question for you.

So Guys 👇

Which Of These Artistes Album Are You Expecting More This Year?

According to Datti, the Police recovered 71 bottles of locally-produced codeine, 30 bottles of tutolin, one carton of ORS used for codeine production and one pot of codeine ready for refilling.

Others, he said, included 100 empty scavenged bottles, 60 cover of bottles and 120 product name tags.

The Police spokesman assured that the Command would not relent in its efforts to rid the state of crimes and criminality.

Speaking with Vanguard, one of the suspected ‘drug manufacturer,’ Victor Achunam, said he was a ‘victim of setup,’ saying he had paid N140,000 for the supply of genuine drugs, but fake drugs were sent to him which led to his arrest.

He said:-

“I don’t manufacture drugs, these drugs were sent to me. I think I am a victim of setup because I paid N140,000 two weeks ago for the consignment, only for these things to be sent to me.

“The drugs came to me in uncorked bottles. But when I called to find out why it was so, the supplier denied that they were fake drugs. Although I am aware that it may be harmful, I wanted to sell the drugs to recover my money. I beg for amnesty; I won’t do it again because I am wiser now.”

A soldier and two operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were shot dead on Sunday following a gun duel with suspected militants in Rivers.

The security operatives were killed and their weapons carted away while preventing militants from vandalising an oil and gas facility in Gio community, Tai area of Rivers.

Col. Aminu Iliyasu, the spokesman of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, confirmed the killings in a statement on Monday.

“The suspected militants attacked troops of 29 Battalion, 6 Division, with personnel of NSCDC in the early hours of Sunday.

“The team which was guarding Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Trans National Pipelines (TNP) in Gio community prevented the militants from vandalising 24 and 28 of the TNP.

“Unfortunately, during the ensuing gunfire, one soldier and two personnel of NSCDC lost their lives and their weapons, one AK 47 and two G3 rifles, carted away by the assailants,”

He said.

,Iliyasu said the army later deployed more troops to the area with intent to apprehend the fleeing militants as well as other criminals in the community.

He said the cordon and search operation led to another gun duel with alleged cultists and an oil bunkering kingpin wanted by security agencies in the state.

“At about 9 a.m. on Sunday, troops acting on reliable intelligence sighted a white Toyota Hilux that was without number plate. The vehicle was hastily driven with four occupants.

“Efforts to stop the vehicle by troops at a check point were ignored. However, troops chased the speeding vehicle and caught up with it around Kira Junction, along Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic.

“Sensing danger, the occupants opened fire at troops in a bid to escape. But, troops reacted and incapacitated the militants vehicle.

“Thereafter, they abandoned their vehicle and fled into the bush. However, one of the criminals was gunned down and was later identified as Korob Menele, a notorious cultist and oil bunkering kingpin,”

He said.

Iliyasu said troops were currently on the trail of the three other fleeing suspects who had sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of gunfire with soldiers.

He listed items recovered from the vehicle as one K2 rifle, two magazines with 52 rounds of 5.56mm one number plate, KRK 95DP Rivers, and some personal effects, including documents.

7 Things Every Corps Member Should Do During NYSC Service Year

$

There are certain things every corps member should do during their NYSC service year before eventually passing out. These are some of those things.

After rigorous final-year processes, every Nigerian graduate is put through one year of ‘service to humanity’ under the NYSC, a scheme designed to nurture the entrepreneurial mindset and mitigate inter-ethnic disunity among the youth.

From undergoing bone-grilling training sessions under the supervision of irate soldiers at orientation camp, and several weeks of community development service, thereafter to long-haul work hours in PPAs, one year – which had initially seemed a long time – could elapse quicker than envisaged.

A concern that has repeatedly pricked the minds of prospective corps members is how they’d take off on the right foot to avoid the confusion of ‘what next?’ after their service year.

Here’s a list of things you must do to make the best out of your service year and avoid amassing a hoard of regrettable memories thereafter.

Build Your Network

Corps members have earned a reputation in many Nigerian communities and respective places of primary assignment (PPA). You might want to leverage on this and ensure you build a network strong enough to land you the opportunities.

Ensure you socialize and build productive relationships. Consolidate your online profile and build professional contacts by interacting with constructive forums and attending seminars. You never can tell what would eventually yield the desired outcome.

Acquire Some Skills

The NYSC is affiliated with trainers for vocational skills of various sorts through its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which trains interested corps members at a relatively subsidised rate.

The NYSC service year affords you the opportunity to acquire a vocational skill so you don’t have to depend solely on certificates to make ends meet. Participating in this program would also get you a mentor and help you find your place.

Take Professional Courses

Getting a job after your service year might take up all the time you need to learn anything new. You might want to expend a cut of your fortune on professional courses with educational institutes like CIPM, NIM, PM, and ICAN.

Prepare Your CV

If you don’t already have it, then your service year gives you ample time to craft a solid CV for yourself. Writing a resume or cover letter is also something you must ensure you get accustomed to.

There’d be lots of jobs for which you might need to craft these documents. You definitely don’t want to wait until they’re demanded of you before you have them ready.

Read Wide, Stay Relevant

To carve a niche for yourself, there is a need to ensure that you’re abreast of lots of knowledge, even those unrelated to your field. Plus, some ideas and advice you need are hidden away in some book.

Reading newspapers and magazines (both local and international), personal development books, fictions, biographies, and many other genres would expand your horizon and get you acquainted with the world around you.

Support Your PPA

Supporting your place of primary assignment could eventually prove to be beneficial and could mean you might not need to go on the job hunt after having expended your service year.

You really might want to fully dedicate your talent to whatever task is required of you and, of course, you don’t want to amass queries and bad records for yourself or ruin your chances of building a network that could eventually land you the dream job.

Have A Plan

Come to think of it. You don’t want to get carried away by all the fuss. During the course of your service year, you should spend quality time on reflecting; figuring out your values; and developing a precise career plan that spans up to ten years ahead for yourself.

You might want to find out what fascinates you; what you want to be remembered for and align your career path with these, ensuring that you set precise timelines and deadlines within which to act on them.

REDUCTION OF POLITICAL PARTIES: We Don’t Have Power To Un-Register Parties – INEC Says

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it lacked the constitutional power to deregister any of the existing 91 political parties in the country.

The INEC Federal Commissioner in charge of Nasarawa, Kogi and Kwara States, Malam Muhammed Haruna, made this known on Monday in Lokoja while declaring open a post-election review meeting on the last general elections.

Haruna said that the clamour by Nigerians for a reduction in the number of registered parties could only be done through an amendment of the Constitution.

He agreed that the provisions in the 1999 Constitution that state that parties must be national in outlook and have headquarters in Abuja had led to unexpected problems but explained that INEC was helpless.

The Commissioner advocated a consensus among stakeholders to resolve the issue, explaining that constitutional amendment was the only way out.

Haruna identified logistics as the major challenge the INEC encountered in the process of conducting the last general elections, saying that steps would be taken to prevent a re-occurrence.

On the just-released European Union Observers’ report on the last general elections, the Commissioner said all the issues raised in the report were outside the purview of the INEC.

He said that the review meeting was organised to identify success factors in the elections with a view to consolidating and sustaining them and to share knowledge among staff and key stakeholders.

Also speaking, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kogi State, Prof James Apam, admitted to security lapse during the last elections in the state.

He said efforts would be made to correct this and other identified areas of failure before the Nov. 16 Governorship election in the state.

The Lagos State government has announced that the road from Mile Two to Tin Can Island along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway has been shut today.

Taiwo Salaam, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, made the announcement on Monday, saying the closure was to allow palliative repairs on the road.

According to him, the closure takes effect from Monday, June 17, 2019, and will last for 48 hours.

Salaam said the closure would be effected to allow the construction company to “speed up the palliative repair works on the corridor due to incessant and avoidable accidents experienced by motorists.”

He advised all trucks to avoid the affected corridors to allow all the repair works to be done.

He added that these repairs and so many others that are in the offing are in line with the plans of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in a bid to ease traffic worries for Lagosians.
