The Oyo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to take over other five states in the South-West geopolitical zone in future elections.

Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha, Chairman of the party in the state said this on Thursday while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, NAN reports.

He said efforts were on to ensure massive supports of the electorate in especially Oyo and Osun States before the next elections.

”Presently, we are targeting Osun and Ondo states and we are working tirelessly to capture these states,” he said.

The chairman promised that the excellent performance of the PDP-led government in Oyo State would enhance its chances in future elections.

On the inauguration of the 9th State Assembly where PDP had 26 out of 32 members, Mustapha urged the lawmakers especially PDP members to unite and stand firm with Gov. Seyi Makinde.

He admonished them to resist any temptation of working against the interest of the ruling party in the state.

He also called on the state legislature to make laws that would enhance actualisation of good policies and programmes of the state government.

On the sharing formula arrangement of political appointments with other political parties, the chairman said there was no cause for alarm as the party would keep to its promise.

He disclosed that all stakeholders were meeting regularly on how best to handle the matter.

The chairman disclosed that some contracts awarded by the immediate past administration would be reviewed.

”The governor has said that he has no interest in stepping on toes but if condition warrants it, he will do so in the overall interest of the state,” Mustapha said.

The former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, said no single Yoruba leader worked for the victory of Mashood Abiola in the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Lamido said this while reacting over the recognition of June 12 by president Muhammad Buhari as the democracy day in the country.

He said on June 11 the whole leaders of Yoruba were in NRC because they are seeing MKO Abiola a more of Northerner and they didn’t vote for him.

“Is like in 1999 Yoruba leaders worked against Olusegun Obasanjo, they only embraced them as their own after they had won election,” Lamido stated.

Lamido, however, stated that all the current APC leaders including Muhammad Buhari, Bola Ahmad Tinubu worked against the June 12.

“No one among all the APC leaders worked for the June 12, only the current Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who was then an Social Democratic Party SDP chairman in Adamawa state,” he said.

“There is no way a broker of democracy can work for democracy,” Lamido noted.

He accused Buhari of being an enemy of democracy as there was no single time he promoted Democracy in the country.

“It was Buhari that toppled the democratic elected government under Shehu Shagari.”

Lamido said President Muhammad Buhari only declared June 12 as Democracy Day to make name because he worked against it.

The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission has described the claim by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, that he was not the accounting officer of the Kano Emirate Council as a misrepresentation of facts.

This is contained in a preliminary report of the Commission on the investigation being carried out in respect of the alleged misappropriation of over N3.4 billion by the Kano Emirate Council.

The report was signed by the commission’s Chairman, Mr Muhuyi Magaji, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Thursday.

The report with reference number PCAC/GEN/6/VOL.I dated June 11, 2019 was addressed to the Secretary to the State Government.

Part of the report reads: “In furtherance to the Commission’s earlier communication No. PCAC/GEN/6/V.I dated 31st May, 2019 on the above subject matter and the unfolding events, the Commission deemed it necessary to make some clarifications as follows:-

“It is imperative to state categorically that, the Commission’s investigation is on alleged misappropriation and questionable expenditures but not on the funds left behind by the Late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero and we still maintain our stance.

“In the cause of investigation, we undertook an analysis of the main Account belonging to Kano Emirate Council and domicile at First Bank with account No. 2005888452 starting from the era of the Late Emir to enable the Commission have an idea of how the money is being managed.”

According to the report, there were 783 activities bordering on withdrawals, transfers and placements from Jan. 2, 2013 to June 6, 2014 during the time of the late Emir.

“As from 2nd January 2013 to 13th April, 2017 the opening balance is N432,338,412.98. Total credit made in the account during this period was N6,784,146,335.73 while the total debit during the period under review is N7,209,035,163.09.” It said.

However, it added that, “The closing balance as at April, 2017 is N7,449,585.62.”

It further indicated that “on Feb.13, 2014 and Feb. 26, 2014 payments were made to Philko Ltd, the company said to have undertook the construction of Ado Bayero Royal City via Inter Bank transfers of the sum of N776,159,519.50.

“There were transfers of N388,079,759.75, N338,079,759.75 and N50,000,000.00 made on Feb. 13, 2014 and Feb. 26, 2014 respectively; making the total quoted figures for Philko Ltd.”

The report also alleged that during the period, fixed deposit placements were made to the tune of N581,884,729.54 (placement and rollovers) while net withdrawals on some engagements both cash and withdrawal stood at N1,056,533,728.31.

“In summary, the total withdrawal made from the Account under the Late Emir was N2,414,577,977.35, subtracting this amount from total debit on the account which is N7,209,035,163.09.

“It is evidently clear that the current Emir is responsible for the expenditures to the total sum of N4,794,457,185.74 from the Emirate Council Account domicile in First Bank Plc,” it said.

Similarly, it alleged that all the expenditures made by the Emirate Council were either based on the approval or instructions of Emir Sanusi.

It attached copy of a payment voucher in respect of one of the withdrawals to buttress its claim, which reads, “Being payment to the above named in respect of making special prayers for peace as directed by H.H. Emir of Kano respectively”.

“Therefore, any claim that the Emir is not the accounting officer of the Kano Emirate Council is a deception and a misrepresentation of facts.

“Specifically, the reason of our recommendation for the suspension apart from obstruction of investigation which formed the basis, investigation further reveals that Rufa’i Buhari (Senior Accountant) usually made cash
withdrawals directly from the account and change it to Dollars on behalf of the Emir.

“Sometimes direct transfers from the account are made to a Bureau De Change belonging to one Jazuli Sani who was said to have died.

“The Commission still maintain the allegation on unappropriated, seemingly personal expenditures, making the total sum of questionable expenditures uncovered by this investigation to the tune of N3,432,090,797.94 only”, the report added.

The management of the University of Ibadan has announced that the cut-off mark for admission into the institution remains 200 for candidates who chose the Premier University in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The university announced this following a policy meeting on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Gbogan in Osun state where JAMB declared 160 as the cut-off mark for 2019/2020 university admission.

According to reports, some educationists have criticised the cut-off mark, saying it is ridiculously low. Some of the also argued that it is an indication of the falling standard of education, The Nation reports.

On its part, the University of Ibadan has also frowned at the UTME score benchmark, saying it will have nothing to do with it.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, in a statement said the cut-off mark for admission into the university remains 200.

He said, “For the avoidance of doubts in the minds of our prospective admission seekers, their parents and guardians, our alumni and alumnae and the general public, the minimum mark for any course at the University of Ibadan, and all its Affiliated Institutions, remains 200 out of the maximum of 400.

“This has been the position of the Senate of the University since the matriculation examinations into Nigerian Universities commenced in 1978.”

In 2017, when JAMB first reduced the cut-off mark for admission into universities across the country to 120, Olayinka vowed that the University of Ibadan would not admit any student, who scored less than 200 in the Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examinations
